Williamson's Update on New Scream Trilogy

Source:IF Magazine
August 4, 2009

Work on the new Scream trilogy is slowly underway and Kevin Williamson is being mighty coy about the story details.

The screenwriter has spent the last two weeks promoting the upcoming CW series Vampire Diaries, which he's involved with, and our colleagues have tried their best to get the latest on the rebirth of the horror series. Our own critic Peter Brown recently talked to the man on behalf of IF Magazine. And while there was nothing too "new" to be revealed, Williamson slips that Deputy Dewey (as played by returning actor David Arquette) is now going to be a sheriff.

"I'm going to finish the script in the next couple of months and then we'll start the project," he says. "It depends on the hiatus schedule and then we'll get in serious talks with [original trilogy director] Wes [Craven] and what his schedule is like. Then the Vampire Diaries - I'm committed to this and I have another show at ABC that nobody knows about. That could come in and change everything."

The "Scream" series is a huge insult to the horror genre. Just let it go.

The Scream series is like religion, it's there for those who need it.
Those of us who like something with a little more substance and less like a cinematic Chinese meal, can simply pass on it lol.

man schedule the only things that ruin a film.

If it wasn't for Scream there wouldn't be a Saw or these slew of remakes that are constantly being made or. But the funny thing is that today's horror fans would probably take the remakes over originality AND they talk as if they are characters out of a Scream film. The dichotomy in the horror fandom today is laughable at best...

You both realize that Scream was Wes Cravens own little jab at how silly the horror genre had become. Unfortunelty it build from there to some horrible sequels.

BTW a note to the Wayan brother's it doesn't make sense to satire a satire......

Scream 1 & 2 were decent enough. Scream 3 was attrocious. At least we see Dr Foreman get stabbed in the head in the toilets hehe.

the scream movies sucked harder than this pitiful Hollywood infomercial called shocktillyoudrop

I don't know how I feel about 3 films focusing on Gale and Dewey. First off, I just don't think there is enough of a story there. Second, I don't know If I can really stand those two characters being the revolving door of three MORE films! I am torn.
I think Sidney Prescott is a much more interesting character, but alas I highly doubt Neve will come back...so I just see this whole thing as pointless. Even though I love the series.
I have hope..if Wes comes back.

I'm willing to see where it goes and all of you know you're going to see them no matter how hard you deny it.

I like the franchise. Nice bit of fun, always love how they had the blatant mockery of the horror genre sequel for sequel. Yeah, it had its lows but like a rollercoaster it has its highs too.

I like the first trilogy as a whole.

This idea... I'm skeptical, yet open to it. It's not my money they'd be wasting if they make a bad film... I didn't invest, AND I get free cinema passes =D

Ever since then I've realised hate is so ridden of my system. God bless it.

"I'm going to finish the script in the next couple of months and then we'll start the project," he says.

Why would it take that long? This script could be written in a matter of minutes and I'll show you how.

Step 1: Sit on the toilet
Step 2: Take a big crap
Step 3: Wipe your a$$ with a piece of paper
Step 4: Wipe again with a different piece of paper.
Step 5: Wipe with a thrid piece of paper.

That's it!! You're done. You know have scripts for a new Scream trilogy.

Totally not needed

I hope JOe can someday come up with a script in the puerile manner he describes. Check back with us when you have the same impact as Mr. Williamson has had on the horror genre. Meantime, thanks for sharing these intellectual insights into bodily functions.

sane_enough and Butplug, you only reinforce the fact that mentally challenged individuals such as yourselves should not have access to the internet. sane is so stupid that he forgot to realize that the original trilogy breathed life in an already stale genre. And Butplug, you're lame attack on the site you're posting at only shows what an utter douche you really are. I'm sure you're one of those losers browsing all the sites and leaving inflammatory remarks just to get a rise. Well, I'll just give you a dose or reality instead ... get used to that right hand, since that's all the love you'll ever get.

As for the new trilogy, eh, why not? It's still not a crappy remake, just another reboot.

Posted by: You Stupid on August 5, 2009 at 07:52:49

Oh, JOe's an idiot too. Just because most of your book reports came from your a$$ doesn't mean we want to share in your $hit. "Ooh, look at me, I'm TRYING to be witty!" .... keyword TRYING, and failing miserably.

The "Scream" series is a huge insult to the horror genre. Just let it go.

Like them or not, just know that without the original Scream movie, there would be no modern horror genre. Scream took Horror back off the straight to video shelves, gave it a budget, and got name actors involved again. What other high grossing horror offerings did we have in 1996? Hellraiser Bloodlines? Great.
Scream re-opened the door for horror to be the profitable work horse it is today.

JOe you are so funny i bet you thought that was so clever... these movies arent highclass or anything but the mystery aspect is pretty awesome
