its based on a true story, that is WAY different than actually being true. the real story is probably completely different and the event just sparked the idea for this movie, that is how it works. saying it is "based on a true story" is just a gimmick to sell more tickets.

well as it said it was based on a true story i looked up the director,basically its loosly based around the idea of the book helter skelter and the manson killings the rest is fictional

okay FIRST OFF, it does not say "Based on a True Story"
it says: "Inspired by True Events" which is sooo not the same. EventS as in plural means its based on different ideas., like who has never heard of Richard Ramirez? ?? [aka Night Stalker]. He used to break into his victims houses, [at night] rape them, torture them then kill them. (mostly women though) but ne wayy . that not being the point. POINT IS that you need to stop saying its BASED ON A TRUE STORY because it is not. & okay yes on the website you will find the whole "The horrifying events that took place in the Hoyt Family's Vacation home at yadah yadah. .."
Which seems to me that thats just made up. I mean dont get me wrongg like i said there had been several TRUE EVENTS where psychos break into ppls houses rite? like the who can forget Marie Tate & the way she was killed along w. other 4 by the Manson Family. geezzs sjakfk.. creepy.
Overall I think this might just be a really good movie, better than those Asian remakes that they keep on making nowadays that is =)

This was filmed in my home town. Scary to know it was so close. Can't wait to see it but I have to ride by the old house it was filmed in... eww scary.
