Exclusive: Milla Jovovich Talks Resident Evil: Afterlife

Source:Edward Douglas
August 1, 2009

The lovely Milla Jovovich has been keeping very busy in the last few years, both making movies and raising a family, and when ShockTillYouDrop.com sat down with her to talk about her part in the David Twohy thriller A Perfect Getaway, we tried our best to learn more about her return to the "Resident Evil" action-horror franchise which has kept her in the spotlight for so many years.

It was just one month back that Shock discovered Milla and her fiancé, director/producer Paul W.S. Anderson, would be returning to the franchise for Resident Evil: Afterlife, scheduled to start shooting in September for release in September 2010.

The last time we left Alice, there were literally thousands of Alice clones ready to be unleashed on the world, and at first, Ms. Jovovich was slightly tentative on getting into detailes about where the story might go from there. "There's a great script and it's going to be pretty wild. It's going to be in 3D," she said diplomatically. "They figured out a lot of stuff. We start shooting in September, they've got it all figured out at this point."

She was a little more candid when asked about what convinced her and Anderson to return to the franchise for a fourth time. "The movie makes money," she admitted. "If it makes more money than the last one, you'd think that people want to see another one, so we'll do another one. There's been a lot of interest online, there's been a lot of letters from fans… film company. It's not like I said, 'Hey, honey! Let's do another one right away!' I mean, it's an expensive film and it's all business and if the third one didn't do well, there wouldn't be another one."

Anderson has really been getting prepared to make his return to directing the franchise since the first movie, especially with the 3D factor being added to the equation. "He's been really studying it and seeing all the different things they have and watching every 3D movie ever made pretty much," Milla told us. "Especially for a movie like this, because it's wild and a lot of action and a lot of potential for 3D to use the medium at its best. Paul has been going to every 3D company and he's now signed a deal to go with Jim Cameron's 3D company--they did 'Avatar'--It should be pretty interesting. I've never actually seen a 3D movie."

Next up after A Perfect Getaway for Ms. Jovovich is The Fourth Kind, a psychological thriller set in Alaska (out on November 6), and Stone with Edward Norton, and you can read more about them in our full interview next week.

Though she doesn't do Oscar-winning movies, you have to give Milla props for her enthusiasm. I think if she was never excited about these movies then the movies wouldn't be as entertaining.

im so sick of the 3d crap everyone is doing it and its getting old.as for resident evil it needs a remake to make it more like the first video game and less action explosion crap.milla can not act you will see she will come in kill everything and have really bad one liners.bring us a resident evil remake with hunters, chris redfield, experiments like a no-talking tyrant, snakes, spiders, plant 42,neptune,berry,rebecca,wesker,and jill, then the movies will be good and have it in like cramped space and creepy rooms with puzzles, keys, and spys, that makes it scary and fun.it could even be two hours long, but the main thing is focus on the story and characters.

What is it with this author and the word "diplomatically"?

-- "There's a great script and it's going to be pretty wild. It's going to be in 3D," she said diplomatically. -- This article.article

-- "It's not on my schedule," he said diplomatically. -- Hitman 2 article, also published today. (http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=57654)

if its james camerons 3d team, then it just might be good. given the description of the avatar footage and its reaction to the people that saw it, this might be just as good.

"The movie makes money" "If it makes more money than the last one, you'd think that people want to see another one, so we'll do another one"

Well, that speaks for itself... Another great movie in the franchise... Capcom, you ****ed it up the videogame franchise from the moment you gave the rights to make the first movie and then developing that thing called... Resident Evil 4. Congratulations!

Ethan, i got a kick out of that quote too. Makes you wonder what's taking so long to make Titanic 2....

I am happy that she is back in resident evil 4 and she is amazing in all three resient evil movies.

Couldn't stand the last 3 movies since they refuse to use the best RE monsters the games have: Tyrants and Hunters

Any word on "Keep Coming Back"? I had heard it was supposed to start shooting this month, but she sounds pretty busy right now...

Posted by: EvilDead-Superhero on August 3, 2009 at 02:29:32

I never played the video games, but was already a fan of Milla's, so I enjoyed all 3 RE movies she did. I'm glad there will be a fourth, although I would like to see mmore Zombies.

Bad journalism or maths.

She isn't returning to the series for the fourth time, she's returning for the third time.
If they do a Resident Evil 5 (please no) and she's in in, THEN she'll be returning for the fourth time.

ooooookay, things that make a game good, don't exactly make a movie good. so just cause the first resident evil game was awesome, does not mean it would make a great movie. I swear everyone thinks they could make the most epic movie. when the truth is, the people giving you the money to make the movie...have MORE SAY THAN YOU DO. so you'd probably end up making an even ****tier movie.

Wow I can't wait to not wait in line for this sure-to-be-a-stinker. "Apocalypse" was bad and "Extinction" was dreadful. The game Resident Evil 5 had some generic action movie cliches and bad dialogue (the worst of which was delivered by Wesker, though he's still an awesome villain) yet was still a better story than any of the films. Don't even get me started on RE4. Why not just follow the plot laid out by the games. They didn't have to follow it frame for frame but, God, look at the mess they made. Alice sucks. Wesker would kill her twice. Give me Jill. Give me Claire (the real ones not those jokes from the last two pics). Give me Chris and/or Leon. Just no more Alice.

I'd never played the games until the Wii (plus a PS2 game that I die as soon as I go outside). I've loved all the films. The CGI one was good too but I missed Milla - Glad she's back.

It might be a "crap" movie but I'd much rather wat these than any rubbish remakes (or a romantic comedy with Meg Ryan in it - urgh!)

Yes! I love all the Resident Evil movies, especially the first, and Extinction, and I am glad that they are making a part 4.

Posted by: You Stupid on August 4, 2009 at 07:05:08

Oh look, a bunch of idiots that want a movie adaptation to be spot on with it's source material. How many times do you imbeciles need to be told, "It will never happen!" That's why they always say BASED ON, which means they took elements from the source material and made their own story from it. Don't like it? Don't watch it, and especially don't whine about it on sites like this that actually cherish positive feedback. And like Gavin stated above, better this than another remake, but wait, that's probably what you brainless dolts want anyways.

i wish they would follow the games i love all the games except those ps2 crap survivor and dead aim games but they should totally remake the franchise to follow the games 0 to 5 including code veronica

Pac Man would eat Resident Evil for breakfast. And to all you anus dangling gamers. Doesn't it get embarrassing taking a dump in a bucket and having your mommy's wipe your a ss's so you don't have to take a break? Do something constructive like read a book. Oh you can't, they have words that are bigger that lol, lmao and wtf.

Posted by: Axcalay on August 4, 2009 at 13:41:51

Hey, go and butplug your own hole, fart and wait to see if your ****ing head explodes all over your ****ty books. Oh, and by the way, if the books you read are fiction, then your not really learning anything, are you ****head?

Posted by: The Horrendous Vibrating Butplug of Death on August 4, 2009 at 15:50:24

Wow we Axcalay!! Sounds like you have enough sand in your vagina to have you very own beach. Maybe you should build a slide and charge admission.

And your idiotic statement about not learning from reading fiction[??]proves you really do need to read a book.
