Summit Entertainment announced today that actress Bryce Dallas Howard, most recently seen in McG's
Terminator Salvation, will be replacing Rachelle Lefevre in the role of Victoria for
The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, the third film in the series directed by David Slade (
30 Days of Night). The reason given for the casting change was Lefevre's scheduling conflicts for another film to which she was committed.
The Twilight Saga: Eclipse is scheduled for release on June 30, 2010. You can read the official press release from Summit Entertainment below:
Summit Entertainment announced today that Bryce Dallas Howard will take over the role of “Victoria” in the studio’s upcoming production of THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE. Actress, Rachelle Lefevre, who portrayed the character in TWILIGHT as well as the upcoming release of THE TWILIGHT SAGA: NEW MOON, will not continue in the role due to scheduling conflicts with another commitment the actor has made. THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE will start filming in Vancouver this coming August.
THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE, the third film in the studio’s TWILIGHT film franchise based on Stephenie Meyer’s blockbuster book series, will be directed by David Slade from a screenplay written by Melissa Rosenberg. The film will be released theatrically in North America on Wednesday, June 30, 2010.
“We are incredibly happy that Bryce has agreed to come into the franchise,” said Erik Feig, Summit’s President of Worldwide Production and Acquisitions. “Rachelle brought “Victoria” to great screen life and Bryce will bring a new dimension to the character. The franchise is lucky to have such a talented actress as Bryce coming in to fill the role.”
Howard most recently starred in TERMINATOR SALVATION as Kate Connor and has been seen in SPIDER-MAN 3, LADY IN THE WATER, and THE VILLAGE. She was nominated for a Golden Globe for her leading performance as an actress in the HBO film AS YOU LIKE IT.
In THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE, Bella once again finds herself surrounded by danger as Seattle is ravaged by a string of mysterious killings and a malicious vampire continues her quest for revenge. In the midst of it all, she is forced to choose between her love for Edward and her friendship with Jacob — knowing that her decision has the potential to ignite the ageless struggle between vampire and werewolf. With her graduation quickly approaching, Bella is confronted with the most important decision of her life.

Well, I'm not exactly a fan of the Twilight Saga, but I consider it a guilty pleasure. So, this is good news for me.

I'm really disappointed. Howard is an excellent actress, but I really looked forward to seeing Rachelle Lefevre in Eclipse. She channelled the perfect Victoria, and I hate it when movies are inconsistant with their actors.
I hope Lefevre turned down Eclipse for something bigger and better.

I'm neither a Twilight fan nor basher, but I have to say Eclipse is shaping into a must see. Bryce Dallas Howard is a fantastic actress, and I love David Slade's previous two films. Here's hoping the next two Twilight installments are better than their promising but misguided predecessor.

Pardon me for being new here. But I noticed in a previous post words are being censored. This is something I have never seen on a horror site. Am I correct to guess we can not type words like:
****? =f u c k.
**** = s h i t
***** = b i t c h
ass = a s s????
Is it because of the preschoolers that suck Twilight’s **** = d i c k?

My wife is currently reading the novels, and last night we saw the first movie. From everything she said, the movie was better than the book. She said the writing was juvenile, a high school melodrama with a few intense moments. The movie was better by cutting out a lot of the sappier conversations they had, and descriptions of the running and flying were badly written, but it looked cool on screen. So, I might see the other movies, but stay away from the poorly written books.

give her a break guys u don't even kno how she well do. i mean i never heard of Lefevre until twilight but i have heard and seen Howard and i think she's a great actress and by the look on that pic she would make a great Victoria and prettier too. so give her a chance at something new like being a villain Vampire.

It is sad that Rachelle Lefevre was dropped so quickly. She had a passion for the role and played it very well. Its not like she didn't want the role and it was actually the opposite. Here is a quote from her Access Hollywood about the recast.
“I was fully committed to the ‘Twilight’ saga, and to the portrayal of Victoria,” Rachelle continued, explaining the turn of events that led to the casting change. “I turned down several other film opportunities and, in accordance with my contractual rights, accepted only roles that would involve very short shooting schedules. My commitment to ‘Barney’s Version’ is only ten days. Summit picked up my option for ‘Eclipse.’ Although the production schedule for ‘Eclipse’ is over three months long, Summit said they had a conflict during those ten days and would not accommodate me. Given the length of filming for ‘Eclipse,’ never did I fathom I would lose the role over a 10 day overlap. I was happy with my contract with Summit and was fully prepared to continue to honor it. Summit chose simply to recast the part.”
