International Dorian Gray Teaser Trailer

July 26, 2009

ShockTillYouDrop.com has a first look at the international teaser trailer for director Oliver Parker's Dorian Gray, to be released by Momentum Pictures.

Based on "The Picture of Dorian Gray," the story centers on Gray (Ben Barnes), a young man who becomes the subject of a painting. As the man descends into a hedonistic lifestyle, the portrait begins to age and morph, but he doesn't. Firth plays Lord Henry Wotton, the aristocrat who corrupts Gray with his worldview.

NOT BAD (MAYBE)

Looks pretty bad.

Oh, wow, it's a sort of halfhearted Masterpiece Theatre meets Marilyn Manson version of one of my favourite novels. If it's short, it might join my Friday night cheese collection once it's in the cheap bin but this has to be a lot better than this trailer (maybe the trailer is just all the worst parts?) to make me part with $12 to see it in the cinema. Cannot see Colin Firth as the force of evil, and why does Ben Barnes seem to play every scene with his mouth hanging open?

LoL it looks horrible

On 09-09-09 I think I'd go see 9 instead.

The footage itself isn't bad. . . the trailer is TERRIBLY edited, the music is awful, the font is way off, and it tries to hard to be Twilight, which is the opposite of what all things good should do. ****ty trailer, movie still looks great.

I've read many classic horror novels, including Dracula, Frankenstein and Phantom of the Opera, but this book was just too slow for me.

Rachel Hurd-Wood co-stars. I'm sold.

I'm so glad this website finally improved their video player. It used to freeze or lag in time.

I was really enthused when I heard a new adaptation of this was being made. However, this trailer proves that the production values on this are straight to DVD quality.

What a waste.

Film looks great, this wasn't the first look though - the trailer was released over 24 hours earlier and featured on a number of other websites.

"If I told you I'd have to kill you"

WOW there's an original line!

This one might end up being good considering it is a pretty classic story that seems to be done right but its lines like that that will sink it pretty fast.

that look so so so bad. Is that a straight to DVD movie.

hopefully this is going to be a memorable adaptation of the book, after all even Wilde has said that there were flaws in his masterpiece. I have faith that the entire teal has done a good job! so far the trailer got me at the edge of my seat, the music was appropriate with the scenes, i tracked the changes they have done so far...must say it swept me off my feet!

is there any chance anyone can give me a tip about the trailer music? it captivated me, literally!

thanx in advance

Ha ha, I can never see Ben Barnes except as Prince Caspian...

Anyway, I agree with the majority of the comments; this trailer makes the movie look pretty stupid. I'm not much of a fan of horror movies, but the actual movie may not be as bad as this makes it look.

Well considering the masterful storytelling of the book was in the storytelling, I can't really see how the plot of the novel can transmit to this film without seeming contrived. I mean the plot is pretty played out at times. The greatness of it was in the words, ideas, and the concept (which everyone is familiar with), and it looks like a lot of the words are just stupid. Can't say much about the ideas being expressed, but judging from this trailer they won't dive too deep in that wonderment either.

Two words and one of them is bull
Doesn't have anything to do with the book except the name. Check out the 1945 film. exactly as the book describes.

It looks good. A little creepy, but interesting. Like the actors.

Oh, they did NOT just use the old "If I told you I'd have to kill you." Poor Wilde is spinning as we speak.

huh

What's with the bad CGI houses? I'll watch the movie but it really looks like a direct-to-DVD type movie with CGI that bad.

Posted by: Starlight on July 27, 2009 at 23:20:18

I haven't heard of the book but I think it looks pretty good! I can't wait to see it!

Posted by: Jessica on July 28, 2009 at 02:06:24

Minus the bad CGI houses and the 'if I told you, I would have to kill you' line, this movie doesn't seem that bad.
I think I can get over the houses and the line (as long as there are not any more like that XD )

Well, I look at this trailer from 3 angles... First, as a trailer in itself - quite good, music matching the clips and enhances the feeling, though the cutting at the end is rather bad. Two, trailer for a movie - it doesn't tell much about the plot, and it makes it interesting and weird at the same time. And three, a trailer for Dorian Gray... well, I have a strange feeling about this, I definitely will go see it (since I love the book and I wonder how will it look as a more horror edition, even if I'm not a horror fan), but I'll hold my judgment until the ending credits. Trailers always show everything highlighted and more intense than the whole movie, and sometimes they give a wrong impression, sometimes better, sometimes worse than the movie. But so far, I quite like Colin Firth and Ben Barnes.

I dont understand, how can you judge a entire film just watching a clip???? I saw the old version of this film and was quite good, so I think this is gonna be great, and Lord Henry Wotton was not the force of evil as we see today in horror movies, but a mix of charming and evil, that is somehow as the devil disguise to seduce you, so, I am very interested to see this film. I saw Colin Firth in the Importance of Being Earnest directed by Oliver Parker and was great, so I will give an opinion when I see the entire movie.
