Anderson Returns to Direct Resident Evil: Afterlife

July 23, 2009

Production Weekly is reporting that Paul W.S. Anderson is returning to the director's chair for Resident Evil: Afterlife. Anderson directed the first installment and stayed on board as a writer and producer for the two sequels. He wrote the fourth film as well.

Sony's Screen Gems has set a September 17, 2010 release date for the fourth film that will again star Milla Jovovich at Cinespace Film Studios in Toronto.

How much farther from the games is he going make this one?

Very cool. I seem to be one of the very few people that dig Anderson's popcorny style. Never quite understood all the hate, when there are many other directors out there without half Anderson's visual talent.

dame the only one that sucked was the 1st! anderson sucks as a director!

Sounds OK to me. The last one was a trainwreck from the very beginning. I would really like them to stop and reboot in a few years and actually go somewhat by the games. I can't believe Capcom lets them put out this garbage.

Jinx - I'm with you. I don't take movies seriously like some do. I enjoy Anderson's popcorn movies. I know which director's and writer's write a fun 90 minute to 2 hour movie where I can just enjoy and decompress. My only gripe is they didn't follow the games to closely.

Capcom made RE4 and 5 which raped the franchise harder than anything PWSA could ever come up with in his silly little movies.

And it's no big surprise he's returning to direct this one now that he's been fired off the CASTLEVANIA movie.

hopefully he gets cancer before he can further destroy the series.

this is good news to me - 1 & 3 had the best visual style. 1st one also had the most creepy vibe, and i'd like RE to go back towards horror.

You guys actually like the Resident Evil movies?
I mean from reading two comments saying anderson is a good director and shouldn't deserve hate and the only bad resident evil was the first movie. If you never played the games then it's an atrocious zombie movie, they never have any scenes of flesh being torn away, the zombies are back round characters in the last 2 movies. Also, resident evil extinction was just ****ing retarded and didn't even make sense why the world was a big sand pit, if anything from what the movies established all the vegetation would have mutated and become monsters like in the games. But I play the games and god the movies are even worse about how completely wrong they are to the games. Besides mortal Kombat, Paul Anderson is just Uwe Boll with more budget.

I'm just hoping he brings some elements from the games this time and not stray far to the left of them like he has with the last three sequels. I love Milla in this role, and i love the visual effects and cinematography, but if he can't get it together and conjure a flawless script with even flawless action sequences, I would suggest it be about that time to hang it up on this franchise.

i wish they would remake this s*!t! instead, they screwd this franchise up, and they need to fix it by useing remeros script or one very similar to the first game! they f@#king suck ,and they f@$ked this up, remake now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

milla sucks to you goons she can not act period.

I don't understand the hate for these movies. I like all three of them, particularly Resident Evil 2 - Nemesis, which is probably the most hated of the lot.

Then again, i've never played the games so i don't come in as a gamer looking for a story to tie in with the video game.

Every movie of Resident Evil is sorry. Capcom has let Hollywood mess up a great game and turn it into a sorry movie.

Im a fan of both games and movies, and they are both two different things. So I dont really mind how different they are from eachother. And I dont think that making the movies 100% identical to the games, would be such a good idea. Its not like they strayed away completely from the games-they did use a mansion, Jill Valintine, Nemesis, Clair Redfield, and the fourth will have Leon I believe and I know it only seems like the're only using characters, but still, I dont see what the big deal is. Im excited for this and cant wait to see it :)

Up till now, i've been a strong RE movie defender but if they really go through with the whole concept of an army of Alice clones against everything Wesker can through at them, i probably won't support the movies anymore until a more game-faithful reboot comes around sometime in the future. The whole clone army idea is just plain ridiculous. And it doesn't look like they're gonna tell us whether the helicopter trip to Alaska was worth it to the convoy survivors since they haven't been mentioned at all.:-(

What game has ever been made into a movie that looks or feels like the game? Until you people that seem to hate everything write, direct or produce a movie of any kind, you need to get over yourselves. Resident Evil is no differnt then any other film franchise. It goes through a procese and many hands before it ever goes on film. I don't understand all the hate. If you didnt like the other ones then why even bother with this one. Leave it to those who enjoyed them.

Loved the first one, second sucked, third was decent. Just MHO.

Ike,
You may as well stop trying to understand ANYONE that posts ANYTHING on the internet. People don't take such things (such as LOGIC) into consideration. Aren't you tired of fighting them? The dummies always win - it's a sad fact of life. Look at American culture, for God's sake. Lil' Wayne and the frat boys are winning.
