I've read Straczynski's draft, and it is pretty good.
I have to wonder -- why the rewrite? Not really sure if Carnahan is the guy for the gig. Maybe they're hoping to bring an extra "realism" to the project?
Interesting...

didnt read the world war z book but i read the zombie survival guide and that was one of the best books i read in a while need to read this book next
Posted by: Milu on July 16, 2009 at 17:42:48
All I got to say is that it is a great book, got a chance to look at the original scrip and it was a piece of wonder. Why are they rewriting it is beyond me.

i agree w/ Milu. the book is REALLY good. it's VERY original (1st person accounts from ALL over the world). i don't know how this will gel together as a film though. they will have to leave a lot out (not YONKERS of course! LOL).
but i'm REALLY happy it's still in the works.

I loved World War Z, and often tried to figure out how in the hell will they turn this into a two hour film. I have faith based on what I've read that someone will turn out a pretty good draft. I'm keepin my hopes up though. Everyone thought Watchmen would never get made and Zack Snyder proved us wrong
Posted by: djblack1313 on July 16, 2009 at 19:38:58
no offense Kris, but WATCHMEN is amazingly boring (except for Jackie Earle's parts and the Dr. M parts). VERY BORING. i've tried watching the director's cut like 3 times and i get bored every time. i hope WWZ turns out better than that.

djblack: Stick to Transformers 2 kid
Posted by: djblack1313 on July 16, 2009 at 21:36:09
HOODED, get a life and a grip and watch who you call kid. i'm probably older than you are. i'm obviously more mature. and TF2 was terrible. there happy?!
Posted by: Baystreet on July 16, 2009 at 23:06:41
I find it amusing on an extremely immature level that Djblack was pleased with Doctor Manhattan's "parts"
You see, because Snyder decided to make Watchmen into a horror movie about killer Smurf genitals, Djblack being happy with Doctor Manhattan's "parts" implies Djblack is a homosexual, and humour can be derived by the fact that this is most likely not his intention with the aforementioned statements.
Y'know what, so long as they get Alan Alda and zombies in this movie, they can hire Akiva Goldsman and Mickey Rourke to rewrite it.

Baystreet, just because you can't read (i like the parts with Dr. M) and YOU ARE A HOMOPHOBE doesn't mean you know anything. congrats, you are officially the most repulsive person i've come across on this site. and that's not easy to do. and yes you ARE extremely immature. take care!

Baystreet I find it sad you have to rag on djblack for expresing her opinion. She seems like such a EFFing nice chick that likes the genre alot and thinks she knows what she is talking about. So stand down mister. Don't be a ****.

I wasn't ragging on anyone, I was presenting an obvious joke in an ostentatious and pedantic manner to prevent a cruder interpretation of it, and to detract from the fact that the anti-Watchmen comments were out of the blue, and off-topic.
I'm not a regular poster on this web site, so I wasn't able to pick up on pronouns, I apologize for that.
Kris Avalon's comments didn't cast any opinion on Watchmen, merely commented that the commonly held belief in Watchmen's unadaptable nature were proven false, regardless of the outcome, since World War Z has been called the same.
Just as one could infer that djblack merely responded as such since it offered a platform for sharing her opinion on the film, beyond the other stated reasons, I primarily just made the post so I could make the secondary joke about Smurf genitals, and no offense was intended, beyond that which could arise from the standard masculine hubris.
Just for the record, I don't like Alan Moore, don't like Watchmen, don't like California or any other such thing that could be taken from peculiar readings of my posts.
And for another record, a smaller record, but bigger then an 8-track, reading comprehension wasn't an issue, any scenes that could be considered "parts with Dr. M" could be referred to as "Dr.M's parts" as in the possessive and such that formed the basis for my juvenile joke.

i loved this book man i hope that the movie will do it justice .. i've been a fan of j michael stryzinski since when he used to write for some of the sci fi book series i used to read so it could be good but to top brooks he'd need to step up
Posted by: Supreme Power on July 17, 2009 at 13:37:06
I enjoyed the ZSG, and met Max Brooks a few years back when he spoke at my college.
Haven't read WWZ, or Z-Day, but my friends have been trying to get me to.
So I guess I better read all of them.
Good premise though. I bet it'll be good as a film though. I like JMS' writing, whether it's Sci-Fi tv, Spider-Man comics, the BULLET POINTS graphic novel, or even random cartoons (interesting point, he wrote for the original GHOST-BUSTERS cartoon).
I wonder what Carnahan will do with it..?
Time will tell...
Hopefully the REAL Zombie Apocalypse doesn't happen first!!!
Posted by: Jimbone on July 17, 2009 at 17:17:22
I've read WWZ and a movie adaptation could be done in all formats,Hand held cameras or "first person" to an Internet based film.
Good News all around. Zombies Rule !
Posted by: ico on July 17, 2009 at 18:07:07
The reason why they're having it rewritten is not because of the quality of the previous script. It's because the film has been put on hold, and if everything stops, it will go nowhere. Something has to be happening with it to stay on track to be made. Basically, if nothing is happening with it, the project will die before it even began.

Baystreet
As much as like someone with good grammer, you just sound like a ****. Also, even though i don't agree with djblack, i don't make fun of people, it makes you look even more like a ****, and don't say you don't care about what people think about you because the simple fact that you respond shows that you do.
Posted by: HOODED JUSTICE on July 18, 2009 at 03:28:54
djblack: You're more the Aliens in the Attic fan. (my mistake)
Posted by: Lord Butt Trumpet on July 18, 2009 at 08:43:11
