Confirmed Exclusive: Resident Evil 4 Arriving in Late 2010

Source:Ryan Rotten, Managing Editor
July 2, 2009

Update: We have just received confirmation - the release date is true!

In spite of what any of the talent involved in Resident Evil: Extinction told us during the press tour (mostly, "this is the final chapter"), the film left the door wide - and we mean WIDE open - for a fourth installment.

Late last year, Paul W.S. Anderson revealed he was indeed writing another film. Capcom was getting involved. Everyone, as he said, was "excited." Well, we've just learned from a studio insider that Sony is looking to get Resident Evil: Afterlife into theaters by September 17, 2010. That's according to an internal memo circulating through the offices there.

Will Anderson direct? Unsure. Will Milla Jovovich be back? I think it would be safe to say yes considering the last entry ended on - SPOILER ALERT - Alice clones getting ready to seek revenge on the Umbrella Corporation which was holed up in Tokyo.

More info as it comes in!

dude its not boring the ****ing sequels are the ****...part two was lame but they came back and set the bars up there...i do agree that if this one isnt great and that one chick isnt in it then they're ****ed...no more movies and more games ''/

They really need to go back and redo the series without Jovovich or Paul Wrecks Scripts Anderson. Unless they were to make Jovovich Jill or something then there's no reason for her to be involved at all. Sure the first movie needs to have more action then the first game did but that can be cleaned up by making SWARMS of zombies instead of the occasional few throughout the mansion, or do like REmake did and make "advanced" zombies that wont really die.. The idea of making combining the first and second game is good, except that it really should be 2 and 3, which the actual sequel to the movies we got sort of did, although its not something I say shouldn't happen..

The series as it stands has veered so far off the track that Capcom finds the need to step in finally, possibly to wrangle in their property so it at least resembles something akin to the games. I'm sure people are looking at these movies, going and buying the newer games and wondering what the hell is wrong and giving up before they really ever start. But to Anderson this is just a vehicle to keep his significant other (Jovovich) working.

For any one wondering, there are rumors Leon will be in this despite his being "confirmed dead" by some tie in newspaper from the first film. This means they may already be starting to retcon things. The rumor is that they're wanting Jensen Ackles (Supernatural, My Bloody Valentine 3d) to be Leon. Personally I hope he turns them down, he doesn't need this series to stain his career.

i want a "remake" instead of this
"super girl" killing zombies while jumping in the air in slow motion.

re 1 (the game) is such an amazing story
it has allll the elements. Set a remake in the mansion chris, jill, barry, forest, ect.
And that would blow away "re4" at the box office ANY day of the week. Anyone agree?

Milla is awesome. And watching her kick ass is just plain fun. Hell, just looking at her is fun. I could watch her drink a soda and be thoroughly entertained.

I'll see RE4 when it comes out for sure. I've been crushing on her ever since I heard her say 'bada big boom'.

im tired of everyone complaining about the movies not following the games it better the way their doing it because if they followed the games and screwed up it would ruin the games and i kinda am blanking but the umbrella chronicles game on wii which is just the arcade version is pretty similar to the movies with some changes and the movies seem to sum up the plot of the games that i've played whenever someone seems to get a handle on things someone screws up virus gets stronger but as far as the movies go they could carry them on for ever similar to friday the thirteenth and such but back to the point stop trying to compare the games to the movies their never gonna match up and when it does it makes the game less fun cause instead of playing the game everyone will be too lazy and just watch the movie and even if isn't mentioned anywhere and capcom denies it their still involved behind the scenes with the movie do you really think hollywood could get away with ripping off capcom people really need to learn to think before going off on ridiculous rants about topics the don't entirely understand so basically what im saying is the game is the game and the movie is the movie the ground plot is the only thing they should share and face it you could never find a good mix so look at the movie as the movie and the game as the game movies and games don't mix and cut scenes aren't movies by the way my email is jdb68886@gmail.com

NO! The films sucked already, don't need to take anymore piss out of the fans by putting in a thousand Alices. You know the only reason Milla has a career now is because of her husband the ******* who brought us such **** movies like Mortal Kombat and Aliens Vs Predator. He's ruined 3 of my favorite series in directing career.

**** yea i love this franchise the games movies. my only complaint is there is no need for alice to have powers or clones other than that i dont see y people didnt like these movie

Posted by: Ihatewhiners on July 3, 2009 at 03:56:12

Geez, I didn't know this was a whine convention....you dont like the movie franchise, then dont watch it. Otherwise, quit whining like little kids that don't get their way. Some people actually like the movies, including myself. Your whining isn't going to change a thing or make this movie stop production...so grow the heck up and move on to things you like. LOL.

Posted by: Ihatewhiners on July 3, 2009 at 03:58:41

LOL,idiot, you talk about the movies pissing off the fans...well, if you dont like the movie, obviously your not a fan. WAAAAAHHH!! Cry a river.

Posted by: Hell and Back on July 3, 2009 at 04:29:12

these films are classics in there own rights, each one better than the previous, peoples opinions vary, simple you like or hate them .. I ENJOYED ALL 3 of the films so faqr and can,t wait for the next one.

If they did follow the games, it would be just another boring zombie film. Considering the reference material for zombie films, what makes you think RE as in the games would end up anywhere but near the bottom pile? The horror oriented game series(excluding 4 and 5) was derivative of zombie films and literature in the first place.

The direction that they had taken the film franchise is refreshing and intriguing in its take on the zombie genre.

On a side note : can anyone imagine the movies being similar to the direct-2-dvd animated RE movies? That would rank worse than a Uwe Bowe. Cliche characters, horrible story where you can see the twist coming a million miles away, bad graphics and piss poor animation, lazy soundtrack and being too serious about their science.

Be careful what you wish for die hard RE game fans!

Joe, who posted "Why can't this franchise make like a zombie and DIE ALREADY?!?" :

A zombie is dead but still goes on anyway, so I guess the movie franchise is ALREADY like a zombie.

jdb: that has to be the longest run-on sentence I've seen in my life. I literally couldn't make it through your post. My eyes hurt too much from trying to decipher the ramblings.

I personally have never played the video games, but the movies were decent, at least, if not predictable. With little knowledge of the games, I knew from the beginning who would live and who would die. They were not really original in the way of script or directing, but they were entertaining. A good zombie movie doesn't have to have much plot to be entertaining; it just has to have a lot of zombies dying in fun ways, and morons dying in hilarious ways from their own stupidity.

The laser grid hallway from the first movie is still my favorite scene from any of the movies.

Posted by: Ghastly on July 3, 2009 at 11:56:45

How does hating fan fiction make me any less of a fan of the GAMES? Hell, Capcom was sick of the series. Enough so that they made their own movie. Obviously I won't be seeing the movie but last I checked I'm still allowed to express my disgust. Don't act like an immature little ***** because I don't see the world with rosy shaded lenses, ****.

Everyone giving negative comments on the Resident Evil movies are a bunch of ignorant *******s. The games did not suck you ignorant idiots. Yes the movies did really good being part of the Resident Evil world. I'd like to get some emails from all those idiots who give bad comments on Resident Evil, because I can get very vulgar with my response. So UP YOURS!!! you bunch of ignorant idiots.

Nice to see people discussing things in an adult manner without resorting to name calling. Oh, wait...

Posted by: AvengingAngel on July 3, 2009 at 23:31:14

To all you people who don't like the movies, don't go to them! I for one have liked all of them so far with #2 my favorite. They've been a success and Milla kicks ass. The game series is good too, but they've made too many movies with Milla to change it now. Go back to your video game lives and let the rest of us enjoy our continuity

Posted by: auhsoJ on July 4, 2009 at 14:10:09

ATTENTION ALL R-TARDS POSTING HATE ON HERE: if you hate it so much, then why the heck are you reading about it? my opinion, you're all just a bunch of angsty losers who need to get a life. And in case you stupid people who say they should have stuck with the game characters didn't know, they did make a movie or two with the game characters. Ever seen the CG movie RE Degeneration? No? Didn't think so. It used the characters Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield. Also, in RE Apocalypse, they took several elements from all of the RE games and used them in the movie. There's all the reason for all of you haters to shut up. Now go watch your girly movies and leave the rest of us to enjoy a real movie series.

i think the hate is an online thing. in general, outside of the online hate bandwagon, even many gamers love these movies. and that's why it's the most successful videogame-inspired film series, each making more money than the previous.

and i LOVE these movies and think they are very badass, with some of the coolest cliffhangers i've seen.

Posted by: Shawn on July 4, 2009 at 22:00:34

They could always stop and go back to square 1. Why not film it in the mansion lab? A great first 45 minutes with zombies, hunters, dogs and some of the other creatures and the awesome finish with a fight with the tyrant. Heck, even throw in the huge shark, some spiders and maybe an ivy plant. Do you think it would be overkill with too many creatures?
Also starring Chris, Jill, Barry, Wesker, Rebbeca, and some of the dudes that got killed throughout the story.
