Julie Adams on Black Lagoon Musical, Remake

Among those who turned out for the opening of Universal Studios Hollywood's Creature from The Black Lagoon: A Raging Rockin' Show was Julie Adams, the Gill-Man's main squeeze and star of the original 1954 film that inspired the park's latest attraction.

"It's [for] a whole new generation and I thought everybody was great," Adams told ShockTillYouDrop.com of her reaction to the show. "They did fantastic things, wonderful effects. It's just different. It's the rock generation."

In the musical stage adaptation, the Gill-Man is disturbed when an science expedition coasts into his turf. He later falls for a lovely gal and, well, a expect a few "enormous" deviations from the original film. Reflecting on why the tale of the Creature has endured over 50 years, Adams says, "There is an empathy because Ben Chapman - who played the Creature on land - used to say, 'We invaded his territory.' Especially in the movie, we feel for him. That's why it's lasted so long. He's not horrible. You say, 'Oh, we don't want to see him hit with a spear at the end.'"

And of the Creature from the Black Lagoon remake: "They've been talking about it for years and I don't really know. I think it's tricky to remake a film that has become a classic in its own way. It's very tricky and I just hope they do it right if they do it."

Stay tuned for a full gallery from the musical soon!

Daniel, she wasn't IN the musical, she just turned up for the premiere/a showing.

As for the remake, if they can do King Kong justice they can do the Gillman justice. Please have some dedication to Ben Chapman somewhere. From the documentary on the Creature DVD he seemed like a really great guy.

RIP - I truly hope people will do the Gillman justice.

I am psyched for the Creature remake! I just hope they leave the design alone! We have several threads devoted to the Creature on our site - www.statuemarvels.com

I'm so happy someone from the classic movie cast was able to see the latest creature enterprise Universal has done. I'm still not sure about how they changed/exagerated(?) the look of the gillman, but for this type of entertainment it's probably necessary.I also still hope the remake is coming soon and that they don't screw up his cool eerie look! Having met Julie before, she's such a nice gracious classic actress and it would be great if she as well as Ricou Browning would make a cameo appearance! HURRY THE MOVIE UP ALREADY!!!

@ Calum I agree there needs to be a dedication, but not only to Mr. Chapman, but also the the man who gave the Creature his unique swiming style Ricou Browning.
Both gentlemen helped us empathize with the Gill-Man.

This is the only remake I'm really looking forward to seeing. Dracula, Frankenstein's monster, Wolfman and the Mummy have been done numerous times. But not the Creature. It's about darn time.
