Snowbound Friday the 13th Coming?

Source:Ryan Rotten, Managing Editor
June 15, 2009

Earlier this year, Platinum Dunes' Friday the 13th reboot slashed into theaters in February grossing $40 million during its 3-day debut. Jason Voorhees made a comeback in a big way grossing an estimate $90 million worldwide. Shortly thereafter, producers Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form announced Friday the 13th 2 was going into development with Mark Swift and Damion Shannon returning to write.

While in Chicago on the set of A Nightmare on Elm Street, Fuller updates ShockTillYouDrop.com on the status of Jason Voorhees' latest outing under their supervision. The producer stresses there is no complete script (yet) and the sequel doesn't even have a greenlight yet. However, if all goes well, there's an August 13, 2010 release date they'd like to aim for along with a few surprises.

"If we're going to do another Friday the 13th we want to present something audiences haven't seen before and one of the things they haven't seen before is Jason in the snow. We just want to bring things they haven't seen before," although that does not mean, "the [entire] movie will not be set in the snow."

Wildstorm Comics published a Friday the 13th tale entitled "Bad Land" last year.

There has also been talk of Platinum Dunes venturing into the realm of 3-D, but that's all matter of cost. Should a sequel take off, it will likely have the same budget as the first film; unless Warner Bros. and New Line were willing to pony up more dough, don't expect to see Jason coming at you in 3-D.

When talking to Fuller, it was palpable that he wants to see improvements made the next time out. "If we were vulnerable in Friday the 13th, I think our vulnerability is people think our kills were not clever enough," he said. "So whatever we need to do to make our kills feel clever in our second film is what we're going to do. I think turning [Jason] into a space-going astronaut isn't the direction we're going to go in. But that's a criticism that goes to my heart. I feel I failed the fans in that those kills were not original enough."

If all goes smoothly, a next Friday the 13th could be rolling by the end of this year.

If this means Jason hunting down teens in a snow covered Crystal Lake, set in December instead of June or July, then it should be cool. As long as it's not 'Jason takes Antarctica' or anything stupid.

Yes, Crystal Lake in winter could be cool, at least visually. Have to give them something for trying to come up with a new angle.

Fingers are crossed. That could be a lot of fun.

A snowed-in Crystal Lake was one of the original pitches for JASON X, but they went with space instead.

I hope they get Mears back as Jason. He's fantastic, both onscreen and off.

I will see Jason in anything. You are reading a post from such a fan that I saw Jason in SPACE for godsakes, in the theaters and I didn't sneak in. I just hope the dude was joking about taking it back into space, if they do that, I'll burn down my local movie theaters, PERIOD. Other than that, yes a camp crystal lake in december would be interesting, just one question, one that will make you think: Set in winter, will we see Jasons breathe? Considering he is technically dead and all?

Also there's the cool aspect of filming in snow, during the day the reflection off the snow will really show every flaw and distortion of Jason's body. It will really make him even more human during the day, but at night it's all diminished again and he becomes the ghost we all know and love. Sounds damn cool, I enjoyed the Killer Cut of 1 a lot too.

SilentSoze.

They ridding all that dead aspect in the remake. That was the whole point they went for was his mom thinking she saw him die, but surely he didn't, as he watched his mom lose it in the bushes and witnessed her beheaded. If anything I have no doubt in my mind they will show some breathing action in 2.

Ridded* my bad.

I'm open to another F13 from this unreliable company as long as a new director is brought on board. I don't want to see another boring film trying to be TCM. And yes, the kills in the remake we're yawn-inducing. Saw it opening night and not a single kill got any sort of audience reaction. Winter would be a cool setting, but I'm more concerned with the fact they made the first film so bland and boring. I don't want to see another bland and boring film with snow now added to the mix.

If its no where as bad as Jason X, the movie will be fine

I hope they elaborate on and show his dungeon and all the artifacts of his past victims. maybe throw in some goodies from the past movies most memorable victims. Like Corey Feldman's masks he made i think it was in the fourth film. Just a throwout to the diehard fans like myslef!!!!!!!!!!!

Daniel Farrands (His Name Was Jason) for Director.

and

Tommy Jarvis must be included in this sequel.

Please keep it set at Crystal Lake and let's not move Jason to another area of the world. A group of people go to their cottage at Crystal Lake for Christmas, and Santa Jason brings them all sorts of nice presents.

Jason On Ice ;D
Visually, it could be awesome.

Posted by: Jared on June 15, 2009 at 15:09:10

I like that it will be in winter but not the entire movie, I still think they need to go into more detail of how he is able to come back from drowning and how he is not a zombie and is still alive. I think they should show a short segment of his mother trying to resurrect him or something to give Jason's story a little more depth other then he saw his mom get killed after he was pronounced dead. I understand from the film that his body was not found but his mother says he was killed so she must of found his body for her to go on a killing spree. I mean explain how he keeps coming back! I mean I'v though of a 100 way they could do it.

I have to agree with SilentSoze....No matter what scenario they put Jason in I will see it. As a matter of fact, I still defend my point that if Jason X was just a generic sci-fi movie with no relation to Friday the 13th, the sci-fi nerds would have loved it.

Posted by: dude on June 15, 2009 at 15:37:52

If Jason ends up in a snowbound Crystal Lake, there has to be a chase scene on the frozen lake. A scene like that has potential to be incredible.

sounds promising, I would probably actually see this.

Posted by: spider on June 15, 2009 at 15:43:16

jason in a snow cover camp crystal lake I didn't know that it snowed in camp crystal lake

Posted by: sTIZZ on June 15, 2009 at 15:44:57

Somebody better get Jason a P-Coat and some Timberlands

Posted by: A sshole of A ssholes on June 15, 2009 at 16:05:46

Just don't put him in space!

Posted by: Alex Soto on June 15, 2009 at 16:11:40

Now I have to admit, the first Friday The 13th was pretty good, sure the kills were unoriginal but I thought everything felt Friday The 13thish. Overall that would be a cool look to see Jason in snow visually. If that is the next angle in the movie then, man I'm ready for it. No space suits or anything like that

put on a plane and call it ''jason on a plane'' and have samuel l jackson in it.

Derek,
Nobody says "my bad" anymore. It never made sense anyway.

Posted by: nate on June 15, 2009 at 16:52:44

i think Jason in the winter in camp crystal lake would be bad ass i could see some snowmobiler driving across the lake and Jason Jumping up through the ice and grabbing him taking him in the water would be like wicked cool.

I see a beheading by ice skate coming. Neat.
