Farewell, Mandy Lane

May 6, 2009

Senator Distribution has decided to pull Jonathan Levine's All the Boys Love Mandy Lane from its July 17th release date. The company offered no specifics as to why. The Amber Heard-starring thriller is now back on the "release date: to be determined" block. This is purely speculation, but we suspect the reason for the drop out may be due to tough economic times. The company, it's been rumored, was closing up its New York office. Mandy Lane isn't the only film on Senator's slate to go "TBD."

You Basterd!

Shame. I thought the one-two punch of My Bloody Valentine and Friday the 13th both grossing 50 mil plus would be a good omen for this one.

By the time it finally sees the light of day, 7 or 8 Amber Heard movies shot AFTER Many Lane will have all been released.

Craig, it hasn't been released in the States yet, so you either have a bootleg or a DVD from another region.

Yeah it's out here in Australia was released a couple of months ago.

Any good Craig?

Will everybody please shut up about ‘Many Lane’ already!!!! How did this below average film ever get so much undeserved buzz from genre fans all over the web. Every time the domestic release gets “rescheduled” (about half a dozen time since the pics premiere at TIFF’06) all these bloggers throw a hissy fit….
Let me say - once and for all - that this pic is nothing like the trailer (false advertising!!). As a genre fan, I approached Mandy Lane with high expectations – based on the trailer and festival buzz – and was rewarded with one of the most disappointing and boring attempts to recreate the feel/tone of our beloved 80s slashers. The film simply does not deserve a theatrical release (or any release). Anyone who still wants to see Mandy Lane should just order the DVD from Amazon UK (where it had a theatrical release last year) or simply download the damn thing. Either way, please shut up already. It’s 2009 and the pic is three years old!! Move on and get a life…

I really wanted to see this movie, and when I finally did...it did not live up to the hype. Average at best, no good kills, mildly retarded plot twist at the end, I've seen better. Same thing with Them (Ils), another low budget horror indy with good buzz surrounding it, totally a let down once I finally saw it. It was good right up until they got to the sewer where, again, a retarded plot twist struck. The problem with these movies is that they over-complicate themselves. Instead of being the simple, fun slashers that they are, they try to get all "smart" on the audience by throwing in a plot twist at the end that doesn't work and only ruins what the rest of the movie tried so hard to do: scare you.

yeah my dvds a region 2. it is a pretty good slasher movie, the ending inparticular was good. not gonna give anything away though.

This movie came out in the UK nearly 2 years ago.

It was lame then, it'll still be lame now.

Save your money.

That's really a shame.

Saw this last summer at the Fantasia film festival in Montreal, and the audience loved it. It's actually not just a pretty good slasher film, but also a frighteningly acurate depiction of those high school years. Of course, the 'ending' twist is not there to completely 'make sense' a la Saw or Secret Window, it's just a thematic device that furthers the film's exploration of the anxieties of puberty.

This film deserved a wide release, trust me. It's a shame rehashed crap like The Haunting in Connecticut or The Unborn get 20 M$+ opening weekends when they only deserve STV releases, as opposed to a horror film with an actual vision.

i wish dimension who originally owned this would buy it back if they never got rid of it it would most likely be out now on dvd as a dimension extreme title anyone else agree i guess i'll hold on to my dvd-r copy of the region 2 dvd

I loved it the second time around. It's not made for a wide release cause people won't get it. If you go in expecting a body count then look away cause this movie is not for you.
