Update: How Much of the Mask Will We See in Zombie's H2?

Updated with quotes from Toth.
Some news fresh from tonight's set visit to Rob Zombie's
H2...
Wayne Toth, speaking from his make-up FX trailer, tells me we will see Michael Myers spend at least seventy-percent of the sequel without the mask. Myers, as played by Tyler Mane, will appear as the disheveled, bearded hulk we've seen in leaked set photos.
"That's Michael's new look for a lot of the film. Fans will be shocked. They seem pretty responsive to it. But it's like anything else, as long as you're doing something cool, people get it."
The film is set roughly two years after Zombie's remake. Between films I'm told Myers has been living in the wild, exposed to the elements. A pic of Myers that was shown to me found him beneath a ragged hoodie, hair covering his dirtied face. He actually sorta resembles Zombie during his Hellbilly Deluxe days.
Toth assures us fans will see new interpretations of the Myers mask.
"There are a couple different versions of the mask, but none of them are the same mask from the first film. He wanted to take them a step further, even though one of them is basically supposed to be the last mask. We've changed it anyway. Then towards the end of the film is the current version of the mask which is a lot different from any of them we've seen. People are going to be surprised when they see it. It's going to thrown the Myers fans for a loop."
Also, keep your eyes peeled to
Crank: High Voltage. Dimension is efforting to get the H2 teaser attached to prints of that film. I'm supposed to see it tonight, keep your eyes peeled for a description soon.

Umm...Zombie, man? Much as I loved your remake of Halloween, the mask is kinda sacred. I mean, it's not really Michael Myers without the mask. Seriously, that mask is why Michael scared the crap out of me when I first saw the originals!
Please dude, rethink this. Put the mask back on.

Well, I was really excited about this movie... Until now. This is some massive crap. I agree with everything Zach said. I'm really bummed now. Sigh...

Was there any doubt? The first one sucked. This one will be worse. It is slowly morphing into house of a 1000 corpses.

This really sucks. Badly.
Did Zombie, actually think he was going to make fans happy, with NOT using the mask?
Seriously - Michael Myers IS the mask. Without the mask, Mane's gonna look like a psycho homeless man.
The teaser trailer better be absolutely ****ing amazing, or I am done with this movie.
HAHA, SERIOUSLY. I can't get over it. Michael Myers, will not be wearing a mask.
Wow, so might as well just call it 'The Devil Walks Among Us', since it doesn't really sound like Halloween anymore.

This is not the first film. This is a brand new film. Your prejudices are excess baggage.

count me in too. i've been a big supporter of this movie from the get go but this is indeed BAD news. as others have mentioned from time to time, it seems as if Zombie is going OUT OF HIS WAY to alienate/piss off HALLOWEEN fans.

"we will see Michael Myers spend seventy-percent of the sequel without the mask."
I'm not sure what to think about that. Thats the face of Micheal Myers.

Michael Myers without the mask? What the **** are they doing!!!
If they making movie in which Michael Myers is without his mask they should know that seventy-percent of the fans expect to see Michael Myers with his iconic mask.
I knew that Rob Zombie will make a **** with H2

Yea, I'm pretty discouraged by this news...I have a lot of faith in Rob, but this news is unsettling. I really thought H2 would be the opposite. In order to develop the movie in his way, I guess he can't have the mask on much of the time. I know I'll like it either way, but I was really hoping to see more classic Myers murdering. I' m far from writing it off though...this will be one of the best horror movies of the year.

i too had very high hopes...until i read this. i mean, michael wears a mask...its called halloween...need i say more? I'll still be seeing it opening weekend but that teaser trailer better be good.

Bruce Wayne was only Batman in 30% of Batman Begins, so we'll see how this goes. I can't say I'm happy, but I'm not about to dismiss the film as garbage. Michael is scary not because of what he wears, but because who he is, and what he does. The mask is part of his image, but not necessarily who he is as a character.

**** You Rob Zombie!
Double **** You If Annie Dies!
Posted by: yaya on April 7, 2009 at 22:20:20
i very seriously doubt this is true. i think they are just ****ing with us.
Posted by: Rob's Biggest Fan! on April 7, 2009 at 22:30:09
Rob is a ****ing idiot. He's making the films all about assclown Rob Zombie and not about Halloween.
He completely ****ed-up the second half of his remake yet blames it on the Carpenter original? He's also so ****ing arrogant about other people's films too, despite only making one good film so far.
A hack, a hypocrite and also rich. I guess the Rob Zombie kiss-ass fans will love it.
**** off Rob, really...

very very...****ed uP! wtf is he thinking..so not paing 12 bucks to see some bearded dude killing teens..i want michael..the one with the mask, thats what makes him..him...laurie is already a whore in zombie's movies, and now he changed michael's character..**** this guy..count me out

BOYCOTT!!! BOYCOTT!!! BOYCOTT!!!
Posted by: danny glover on April 7, 2009 at 22:51:29
wow!!!!! 70 % so we are only going to see him in the mask mainly in the beginning of the movie and in flash backs wow rob ur going to kill halloween forever! and as for the post made by dude no one cares about who he is as a character the mask is necessary. its like having a freddy movie with out his glove. and as for what u said about batman u need to have bruce just as much as batman cuz they fill each other out with out the batman suit is batman realy batman anymore? no. so what rob will kill the halloween films, mustafa akkad would be ashamed to know whats going on with halloween.

It's bad enough he made the backstgory f**ked up mess remake, now this? The guy is pathetic. Bad enough that they decided on a backstory which ruined the pure evil storyline that made the original the scariest film ever. Not to mention a geeky weird little kid turning into a gigantic behemoth. Now a ragged bum in the woods? Psychosis. Probably be worse than Friday The 13th and his horrible remake of the first. Absolutely offensive and pathetic.

this is the end of halloween.
Posted by: Ernest on April 7, 2009 at 23:14:20
I agree with all honest Michael Myers fans here!
I have to say that Rob Zombie destroy Halloween franchise once again!
I am a huge Halloween fan and this news makes me feel bad :(
Making Halloween movie in which Michael Myers is not wearing his mask is the same like making movie about Freddy Kruger without his claws and christmas sweater!

Very ballsy move. I'm actually much more interested now. This is something really different and new. Zombie's breaking the rules and I think this film will stand on its own two feet better because of it.
Also, very interested in this 'new mask' concept. And by the sounds of it there's more than one too.
Posted by: hendrix on April 7, 2009 at 23:29:59
i can't write this off as garbage yet. i am like the rest of you uneasy about myers spending so much time out of the mask but zombie may have something going with this. rob if you read this, please give micheal much less camera time than in the original. while you had many good elements in H1, the fact that we saw micheal so much of the time took any element of surprise out of the kills. and also, don't use loud noises during the kills. it's tacky. rather let the only sound we hear be the sound of the stabs and screams from the characters. it will make it seem much more real and gritty.
Posted by: aaron on April 7, 2009 at 23:32:29
i think they be trying to swerve us. he is wanting to keep it as secret as possible. but if not, i have always been a halloween fan. i love every movie. BUT if this is true then that sucks bad. i do believe zombie can still make him pretty scary without the mask. but i do agree with the majority, the mask is michael.

Stop pissing your drawers long enough to realize that you people have no context in which to view this. You have no idea where the plot will take the character. I think that it will lead to places that have not been visited before, and that happens to be the point. This creative filmmaker is doing something new, not pandering to the audience with the same tired crap. Boycott? Try to make sense. This is not a political issue; it is a horror movie. Don't buy a ticket if you can't take the heat, but I'll be there for sure.
