EXCL: There's a New Director on War Monkeys

ShockTillYouDrop.com has been tipped off director Kyle Newman is gearing up to enter a primate combat zone. According to our source, the Fanboys helmer is now attached to direct the horror-comedy War Monkeys.

Producer Robert Sanchez offered a "no comment" when we reached out to him for confirmation. He did assure us the project's original director, Kevin Munroe, will remain on board in the producing capacity. Munroe is currently shooting the "Dylan Dog" adaptation Dead of Night in New Orleans and scheduling conflicts are preventing him from helming Monkeys.

Casting is expected to begin next week.

War Monkeys, written (and co-produced) by Cleve Nettles, is set during a Christmas holiday when two janitors get trapped in an underground research facility after accidentally unleashing military-trained Rhesus monkeys. Dark Horse Indie is overseeing the production.

Why turn it into a comedy? Monkey are terrifying creatures and if done right this could be a really scary film.

i think the comedy aspect was addressed a while back. the monkeys are supposed to all have specific personalities like gremlins did...that alone should provide some awesome laughs.

while i'm with you that this could be pretty creepy if they didn't go comedy...i think doing horror-comedy is gonna work WAY better with this scenario.

monkey+bandana+cigar+gun = happiest sammy sam saminson EVER.
