Update! Rob Zombie Returning for Halloween 2?
Source:Ryan Rotten, Managing Editor
December 2, 2008

Update - 11:59pm Pacific: Trancas International tells us they are sending out a press release regarding the sequel in the next day or so. It appears we may be on the money with this. This afternoon, I put in one call to one of Zombie's reps and received a "no comment." In regards to something of this nature, I fully understand that the producers would want to give it a proper break in the trade papers. So, if confirmation does indeed come down in the coming days, just remember where you read it first!

Too good to let slide until we get some hard facts, a morsel of info has come our way regarding a sequel to Rob Zombie's Halloween.

It's been widely reported at this point that Inside helmers Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo have parted ways with Dimension Films and Trancas International's proposed Halloween 2, leaving the door open to anyone. An insider phoned in this afternoon exclusively informing ShockTillYouDrop.com that Rob Zombie may reprise his duties as director and carry on the new Myers legacy that he forged with Tyler Mane behind the mask.

Where does that leave Tyrannosaurus Rex? Well, according to our source, the project is on hold for now since Halloween 2 is expected to start shooting in March. But questions remain: If this is true, has Zombie been at work on a story? Is a script complete? Will a script be complete by March? The man is busy hatching his new album, where's his focus?

There's much to consider.

I've put phone calls and e-mails in to all parties potentially involved. Now we just wait for a confirmation or a denial.

wow, i hope not. His first one was a typical rob zombie movie... terrible.

if he does, let it only be one sequel. stop after #2

I watched the original Halloween 2 last night and was reminded how great it was not only as a sequel but, as a horror movie in general. Zombie ruined Halloween, period. He should stick to doing his own thing but, seriously stay away from this franchise please. It's lasted so long and has been through so much please let someone else do this movie.

I liked Zombie's take on Halloween. It took elements of the original and brought something completely different to the table. I only wish he would have fleshed out the Laurie, Annie and Linda characters more. I also wish that Michael's family weren't so white trash. It would have been scarier had he come from such a normal conservative family. If this is true, i cannot wait to see what he does with the sequel.

I also forgot to add I would like to see Tyrannosaurus Rex as well as get some new music from Rob Zombie. Seems he has a lot on his plate.

If they are going to go ahead with a sequel (which they shouldn't) It's probably best to let Zombie do it. At least we'll know what to expect.... if you liked the last one, watch this. If you hated it, skip the sequel

Pretty sure this is BS...Rob Zombie has made it very clear that he wants nothing to do with any Halloween sequels. That's why there was no room left for doubt at the end of his version that Myers is dead.

Tyrannosaurus Rex sounds interesting and I'm more looking forward to that than any Halloween sequel, it was fine as is and there is no need for sequels. And what's this about Rob Zombie working on a new album?? sweet! Hope it's better than Educated Horses, something more like Hellbilly Deluxe or Sinister Urge would be sweet!

I guess I'm naïve, but if this is true, it might be a chance for Rob to take it in a different direction. Judging from the tight scheduele, I'd say it's likely to be rushed though. I liked his attempts with the first one - but he tried so hard to do something different it ended up jumbled and overproduced. Too many balls in the air Rob. Simplify. You've done a fantastic exploitation flick (TDR), now give us a good horror film.

I still don't quiet understand why people think Rob Zombie is a horrible filmmaker. His movies are more creative then most of the awful work that's produced in Hollywood today. Clearly he's heavily influenced by the 70's and it's era of filmmaking. His work is more in the vein of movies like Deer Hunter, Easy Rider, Taxi Driver, The Gauntlet and countless other films from the 70's, movies that are inherently depressing in some fashion.

I like that he's sort of taken on the mantel of that type of filmmaking. No happy endings, no unnecessary twist or turns with surprise endings. More power to him. At the same time, I liked the way he ended Halloween, it made is absolute, and I kinda want it to stay that way. Over and done with. But if he does make another film I'm sure he won't just do it to get it over with. I don't, I'm just rambling now.

Please Horror gods DO NOT LET THIS HAPPEN!!! If Zombie gets off his Texas Chainsaw "wannabe" kick maybe he can fix his disaster with the remake by making the sequel right. He DID NOT do Michael Myers justice....at all!

The biggest piece of news from this post...the guys behind INSIDE are NOT doing Halloween, which completely sucks. Not that I wanted their next film to be a remake, but I'd definitely rather see their sequel much more then Zombie's, who somehow managed to make Halloween completely boring. Inside was a better Halloween remake than Zombie's Halloween remake...and Inside is a much better film than anything Rob Zombie's done. Don't get me wrong, I love Devil's Rejects, but its not like House of 1000 Corpses is our generations Easy Rider, or Deer Hunter for that matter.

Posted by: Candi on December 1, 2008 at 19:28:09

I thought he did a good job on the remake. He managed to make Myers more darker and sinister. I just worry about sequels being flops. Most sequels do not do very well. Best to leave well enough alone.

Posted by: MDOC on December 1, 2008 at 19:57:16

I hated the remake. The white trash angle was not interesting at all. I was hoping Zombie would just walk away.

Posted by: Chainsawjack on December 1, 2008 at 20:26:25

I had said originally that I hated to see him take on this franchise which was never my favorite to begin with. Especially when his original work was so good, but I was pleasantly surprised with the last one and so I reserve judgement on this one as well. But I have to say, bring the new Rob, you doing remakes is like a master chef serving microwave dinners.

Posted by: shaolin74 on December 1, 2008 at 23:52:23

Lay off Zombie though...the only mistake he made was agreeing to do a remake of the best horror movie of all time. No matter what he did, people would trash him. Its like trying to remake The Godfather I or II. You are doomed to fail.

I did like the 1st half of the remake, mostly cause the kid who played Myers was awesome. Its tough to make a maniacal killer into a sympathetic person you feel bad for & Zombie did accomplish that. The 2nd half was bad though.

I agree...he should've just made a prequel of Myers childhood which was actually pretty good.

NOT A SHOT IN HELL that Zombie does another remake of any movie much less the most beloved horror franchise ever. I think he learned a lesson.

damn..you got to be kidding be "Rob Zombie's Halloween" was a MEDIOCRE film...not wonder studios think only about the money and keeps producing crap!!!!...thankfully theres expection "The Strangers" and from what im hearing "Trick r Treat".

Posted by: francesco on December 2, 2008 at 03:11:53

he won't return as director maybe as producer but not as director.
thanks God!

Posted by: 80Pork on December 2, 2008 at 05:46:44

That's what I was thinking...Zombie may return as a producer, but I doubt as director. I think that will work, because at least he could make sure that a sequel sticks with his vision.

The on-line community gives Zombie a lot of flack over Halloween, but I thought he did a good job...it was definitely better than "Halloween: Resurrection"! My only major complaint is that he should have gotten someone else to write the dialogue between Laurie, Annie, and Linda...terrible lines there! At least Carpenter knew to get Debra Hill to do that part!

Very interested in seeing "Tyrannosaurus Rex" as well, though. Looks like "The Nail" to me, so I'm all for it!

I hope they are not making a sequel. I thought the remake was just too drawn out. Everyone of Zombie's films, I watch and I never want to see them again.Plus the way the first one ended, a sequel would be silly. I wish Hollywood would stop this....

Posted by: Jeremy on December 2, 2008 at 08:55:29

Ugh. What happened to not making a sequel, Rob?

I personally liked the remake. Obviously it will never replace the original, but it brought something different to the table, and I appreciated that. I really enjoyed the way it ended and I think that making a sequel cheapens the victory of Laurie of those final moments.

Posted by: francesco on December 2, 2008 at 10:48:31

i still hope in a sequel, but i would like to see an old school halloween, with an old faschion mike.

Posted by: filmboymichael on December 2, 2008 at 11:07:59

I have to say, that I didn't mind Zombie's Halloween; but I did HATE how he white trashed the Myers family - he made it a typical mudering SOB - I think a great part of the backstory of the original John Carpenter version was that it appeared that Michael Myers came from a typical, middle class American family - that's where part of the horror came from. That aspect of the Halloween story was ruined by zombie. That and the dialogue which involved the word F**k in every other sentence. If he does do a sequel that's based on the original Halloween sequel, I hope he shows us a little bit of range in his direction and makes a slick, elegant film that's more about the suspense and the chase and less about the white trash.

Love the new halloween film roz should defineely be brught back to do the sequel no question about it!! for the first time in like forever his take on MM scared the crap out of me! I´m stoked :P :D

....sadly thow I think this is just a crazy rumour :(

Earlier today,I read over at another site that the scripters of the "Hellraiser" "re-imagining"/redux came on-board as the new "Halloween" project's scriptwriters, for it'll be interesting to see if Rob Zombie actually does return to write and diect this one(as long as he doesn't call it "Halloween 2").

Posted by: Ryan Rotten, Managing Editor on December 2, 2008 at 19:02:27

Steve, if this all pans out, Rob would be writing and directing. The former Hellraiser duo - mentioned in the above article - have nothing to do with the new Halloween anymore.
