SDCC '08: Friday the 13th Panel Live

Source: Ryan Rotten,Edward Douglas
July 27, 2008

Shock is reporting live from the Friday the 13th panel. Brad Fuller, Andrew Form, Amanda Righetti, Jared Padalecki and Derek Mears are expected to take the stage.

Here are the highlights!

• The moderator has announced that attendees of this panel have a chance to win one of Jason Voorhees' prop machetes from the film if they text a specific number.

• The panel begins! Intros to all those taking the stage...

• Teaser poster revealed!!!!

• Teaser footage shown feature Righetti and boyfriend lurking through a dilapidated cabin where they find a bed. On the bed post reads "Jason" - further along they find a hole. The boyfriend peeks in and a machete suddenly tears through the floorboard beneath his feet!

The boyfriend is jerked down into a hole and Righetti goes nuts, screaming her head off. This scene descends into a hellish montage of violence.

(By the way, Edward Douglas is taking over here while Ryan Rotten prepares to moderate the Rogue Pictures panel...)

• Someone just asked if they'd ever see Freddy get back together with Jason for a sequel to Freddy vs. Jason and they said they'd love to do something with Wes Craven.

• A person in the audience asked if there were plans to make the remake into a trilogy, but Brad Fuller says that the ending to the movie seems finite and that the movie will stand on its own.

• Derek Mears was asked if he'd want to play Jason again after this movie and of course, he said "yes." (What else would he say?) Jared Padalecki gave Derek a bit of lip service saying there's a "whole new level of scare" because it's based more in reality.

• Some idiot just asked about explosions cause "Michael Bay is directing it" (jeers abound)

• Someone in the audience asked about the other remakes they're working on and sequels to their previous remakes and Brad said he'd like to do another "Friday the 13th" and he mentioned their remake of The Birds and said that was "pretty much it" and they're looking for "great horror properties to remake" including trying to get a deal to remake Nightmare on Elm Street but "they haven't made the deal yet".

• Kind of generic question about whether the movie was physically demanding... um... I think I could probably answer that one or guess what the actors would say... "Yes.. demanding... worth it.. a challenge." Derek Mears mentioned that a lot of the time the actors didn't want to use their stunt doubles so they'd be manhandled a lot by the new Jason.

• There was a question about whether they'd explore Jason's childhood and Brad Fuller confirmed that they did.

• A question about the length of the movie and after a joke about it being 3 hours (ha ha), Fuller said that they usually try to make them 90 minutes.

• Question to Amanda Righetti about not falling into the "damsel in distress" role... she tried not to.

• Someone asked whether they considered having cameos from the earlier "Friday the 13th" movies but Brad Fuller denied it because they didn't want to take audiences out of the movie by doing that, so they chose not to do it.

• Derek Mears says that his Jason is a lot smaller and more intelligent about trapping his prey than previous movies rather than just chasing them blindly.

They showed the trailer one more time.

I have seen every Friday the 13th movie..but this one to me will be more special because my BOY..Jared Padalecki is in it. I also think that Jared will die in the movie.

Not sure about this as I wasn't crazy about the TCM remakes....but this is a pretty sweet poster...hopefully the movie will be as sweet. Being a lifelong Jason fan, Either way I'll be there opening night and will only formulate a concrete opinion after seeing it.

i heard on the site horrormovies.ca that they are heading toward the direction the way the remake of halloween was, by going into jasons childhood and show how he was abused and tormented, i am starting to dislike this remake now, jason was so scary back in the day because we did not know much about him other than the fact he drowned and died, then came back as a silent supernatural killer who could not die, now it seems we are gonna get another crappy rob zombie halloween type remake but with jason.

Posted by: j on July 27, 2008 at 21:42:15

No plans for a sequel huh, i guess the reason they made this remake so they can make jason human like and not dead so they cant make anymore sequels to this and the original movies

Posted by: j on July 27, 2008 at 22:04:27

They can at least make another freddy vs jason before they decide to put both F13 and ANOES series to rest with these remakes. Cause after this unless they are just bullshyting about not making anymore sequels then thats it no more jason no more freddy and definatly no more michael. Oh yeah apparently sam raimi's working on evil dead 4 now according to horrormovies.ca thank ****** god its not a remake.

j, don't forget in that interview, Fuller says he'd like to make another Friday movie. i have no doubt they won't make another one. this is going to make a TON of money. money talks and makes the impossible possible.
he even says if there was a sequel they would rack their brains and find a way to bring him back. so at least we know he definitely (at least for THIS movie) dies in this.
reminds me of Zombie's Halloween, in which Zombie made it clear in his mind this is a stand alone film. Michael Meyers dies in his version.

is anyone starting to think we WON'T be seeing the clip/montage online AT ALL. someone MUST have recorded the footage at the convention, right?

Posted by: Ryno51290 on July 28, 2008 at 01:58:13

wow i just got back from comic-con and saw the teaser and all i can say is this is going to kill!!!

no one was allowed to film anything just snap pictures and what not. plus u wouldnt be able to hear anything anyways....the speakers were being blared so it would have been drowned out.

Jason is smaller though and can run so i hope no one gets bummed about that one.

i nearly shat my pants!! the scene w/ Jason running at Jenna? Whitney? w/ the axe at the end of the footage is one of THE scariest things i've seen in a while!! this movie is already BETTER than most movies that have come out in a loooong while!

dj- we all nearly did :)

I hope Jared, aka: Clay, doesn't this time. After all, his character, Wade, died in the House of Wax remake. Plus, in the trailer, I could swear I heard Whitney's boyfriend being called Mike. Wonder how he's going to bite it?
