Does a New Photo Hint at Daryl Dixon’s Demise on ‘The Walking Dead’?

The Walking Dead s5A new photo from The Walking Dead season 5 will certainly get Daryl Dixon fans worked up and talking. The pic, which originated at EW, finds Daryl sweaty, bound and gagged. And the look in his eyes is either pleading for mercy or it is thankful for salvation – which one do you think it is?

We’re going to be seeing a lot more come out of season 5 as we get closer to the San Diego Comic-Con.

That’s where the cast and crew will descend on Hall H on Friday, July 25th from 12:20pm-1:20pm.

The cast and producers will participate in a panel to discuss what fans can expect in the highly anticipated fifth season, which debuts in October.

Panelists include: Andrew Lincoln, Norman Reedus, Steven Yeun, Lauren Cohan, Danai Gurira, Melissa McBride, Chad Coleman, Michael Cudlitz, Executive Producer and Showrunner Scott Gimple, Executive Producer Gale Anne Hurd, Executive Producer Robert Kirkman, Executive Producer and Special Effects Make-up Supervisor Greg Nicotero and Executive Producer David Alpert.

An autograph session will be held later at booth #4237 that same day from 1:50-2:50pm.

Given the huge fanbase that’s built around Daryl alone, that would be pretty ballsy of a kill for the show (the biggest one would be Rick, which probably wouldn’t happen until the series finale).

Honestly, despite him being one of my favorite characters, I feel that Rick has used up his usefulness and is just as liable to get offed as anyone else.

If anything, Dibal, up above, has it right as far as Daryl is concerned. Daryl is a major draw for The Walking Dead, so to kill him in any way other than epic-ly would be a major mistake.

I don’t think we’re done with Rick yet: he appears to have had to great awakening at the end of season 4 so I think he’s going to evolve in more badass ways that levels out groundwork for his character to be further explored.

Near the beginning of last season, when Rick and Carl were wandering about, and Rick was so ill he passed out and it seemed as though he was dead.
Then, it seemed as though he became a walker and Carl almost killed him. He could have been done back then. It would have been surprising and chilling…

…and we would have moved on.

Except that scene you’re talking about (the beginning of the season’s second half) was lifted directly from the comics and was meant to show how Carl, though he had said how much he hated his father an could survive without him, then hesitate to shoot his supposed walker-father, only shows Carl isn’t ready to survive on his own. Plus, for a man like Rick, it would’ve been a poor way to kill him off, as he’s a hero and, should they decide, to kill him off, they would probably do so in a more heroic fashion as they want to pay tribute to the comics while also carving their own path. Like the fist fight between Rick and the Governor? Not in the comics. But it was very cinematic and much anticipated that they couldn’t resist. So I don’t think a majority of the fans would’ve been ready for Rick to have been killed or have moved on so quickly as that.

They’ll not be killing off Daryl just yet. If anything I suspect that Daryl’s death will come at the hands of Negan, possibly at seasons end or next season but Daryl is a kill that will be an “Event” death and I’d think not at the hands of the Termites somehow. To me, the official release of this picture probably confirms that Daryl is fine. I doubt that they’d tip their hand so easily and are probably just building up a certain fanbase to a frenzy.
