Leprechaun: Origins Gets a Trailer, Will Head Direct to DVD & VOD

Leprechaun Origins posterLeprechaun's search for gold and bloodshed will not be seen on the big screen. Rather, he'll resume his reign of terror on DVD and VOD when Leprechaun: Origins arrives on August 26th (VOD) and September 30th (DVD/Blu-ray). So much for that rumored "big screen return," eh? (Somewhere, Warwick Davis cackles at this.)

WWE Studios and Lionsgate are handling distribution and, this morning, EW has debuted the trailer which you can watch here.

Zach Lipovsky directs this entry which is said to be a more serious take on the horror icon. The film concerns some couples backpacking in Ireland who "quickly discover the idyllic land is not what it appears to be be when [a] town’s residents offer the hikers an old cabin at the edge of the woods. Soon, the friends will find that one of Ireland’s most famous legends is a terrifying reality."

Hornswoggle plays the malicious creature and look for Brendan Fletcher (Freddy vs. JasonGinger Snaps), too!

Still not showin’ him eh? Well, I’ll give it a shot, looks like they’re trying to take a serious approach and that’s what this series/reboot needs.

This trailer was better than that St Patrick’s day clip. Would still like a peak at the Leprechaun though.

I’m still not sold on it. I think a serious approach is a bad idea (it’s a killer leprechaun for pete’s sake) I’ll still watch it.

Haha true. I’m not too thrilled that after a lame clip and the first trailer, we still haven’t seen him. That can’t be a good sign. If everything was the same but Warick Davis was still the star, then I would be more optimistic. Like u said, I’ll still watch it though.

the ireland setting gives me hope.
Then again tha hood is pretty much his Crystal Lake by now
The Leprechaun series actually has it own traditions though, and i doubt this follows any of them.

1.Magic.INTEGRAL. It makes him a waking Freddy and makes up for how he’s outmatched physically

2.a scene where 2 or more people are kicking the Leprechaun while he’s on the ground.

        3.Greed

        4. The modest final girl is uncharacteristically sexualized through mind control or illusions.

Looks okay but how can a movie like this not include T&A? Seems obvious to include.

It’s funny. Just be including “Origins” in the title, most people will think it’s supposed to be a prequel to the existing series. Perhaps “Reborn” would have been a better choice, or just simply . . . “Leprechaun.”
