Fuller: Hannibal Rising, Hannibal Novels Impact Hannibal Season 3

hannibal-madsThe long holiday weekend is almost coming to a close and I think some of us are still devastated by the events of Hannibal's season 2 finale. Now, from this point forward, we're talking spoilers here so turn back now if you don't want to know what happened or what showrunner Bryan Fuller has to say about season 3.

If you thought the arrest of Will Graham at the end of season 1 was a shocker, season 2 was out to leave you bleeding out, curled up on a tile floor emotionally shaken. No one was safe, everyone was dying and Hannibal was last seen on a plane with Gillian Anderson's Dr. Du Maurier en route to France.

Rough stuff.

Fuller spoke to TV Guide about what's to come and he said two of Thomas Harris' novels will be felt in season 3.

Season 3 is going to be a lot of fun because it's going to be taking a lot of disparate elements from the novel Hannibal Rising and the novel Hannibal and mashing them up together as part of the thrust of the season. It's going to be fun to bastardize two novels into one sort of Frankenstein season. I will brace everybody right now: We're significantly changing the Hannibal origin story from Hannibal Rising.

As usual, "The Silence of the Lambs" is the one novel they have to veer away from.

The books won't necessarily be in sequential order. We'll be hitting elements of each of them except Silence of the Lambs in the next season. My hope is that not only do we have a completely different Hannibal Lecter story in Season 3, but we will meet some of those great characters like Francis Dolarhyde and  Lady Murasaki and weave them into the world in a unique way.

are they veering away from Silence of the Lambs because it’s such a giant in the genre,or is it a rights thing?

Fuller said in former interviews he would do around seven season. Which means he should spare some of the guts for later episodes.

hes doing 6 now he said 7 but the other day he said he condensed 2 of them into one >< the more the better i think ^^

        • Eizzy IceBorne

If he can keep this (literally) shocking quality, I absolutey agree.

    • Polite_Werewolf

It is a rights thing. He’s actually still fighting to get the rights for those stories.
