10 Films That Deserve the Special Edition Blu-ray Treatment!

Dr. GigglesEven as the DVD market has shrunk in the digital age, excitement for those silver discs has stayed strong among horror fans thanks to the exceptional Special Editions of cult favorites produced by companies such as Scream Factory, Synapse, Blue Underground and others.

But as many worthy films have already been (or are slated to be) granted the Special Edition treatment, there are still scores of others waiting to get some DVD/Blu-ray love.

Following is a wish list of ten movies – some classics, some cult items, and some guilty pleasures – that we’d love to see earn Special Editions of their own.  In alphabetical order…

  • NixEclips

The original Devil’s Daughter release on VHS was cut, so anybody that saw it was missing out. Just like “Terror at the Opera”, nobody understood why we they were supposed to be watching them. Might explain why it’s under-appreciated.

  • jeffreyh

tremors and its sequels and dr giggles are already out on bluray. What i really want on bluray is krull and the hidden 1987.

  • John Allman

The Hidden and The Hitcher would be great. I’d love to see Scream Factory pick up Hell Night, The Devil’s Rain, Dracula (1979), Empire of the Ants and C.H.U.D.

  • joelwaters

They need to bring the It’s Alive trilogy on bluray as well as 3 on a meathook and Eaten Alive

  • Mumm-Ra

Dr Giggles and Highway to Hell were okay. I really want Tales From The Hood. A friend of mine was just telling me about Nightmares would like to see it.

    • MrX13

Nightmares was a good horror anthology movie back in the 80s. Enjoyed watching it as a kid and i would buy the Blu-Ray Edition of it.

  • Motion Fiction Media

I want to see a blu-ray for “Don’t Go In the House” I’d really like to see Scream Factory put it out.

  • J Jett

    i’d love a special edition

    “Hell NIGHT” (w/ Linda Blair)

and how about ANY release (it doesn’t even have to be a special edition) of the movie “HUMONGOUS”!

that movie has never been released (as far as i know) on DVD and the VHS copy/transfer of it is so bad it’s nearly impossible to see much of what’s going on.

    • James Montoya

Humongous has been on DVD for awhile

  • M M

I’d love to see fright night come back on blu-ray. It’s release was too limited and copies are now ridiculously expensive.

  • Ruben

Some of these titles dont deserve it except for The Guardian and Tremors. What really needs a Bluray releases is the 1969 rare Italian horror film “The House That Screamed” AKA La Residencia!

  • jimmyt1967

Outside of Dreamscape I wouldn’t buy any of these…..well maybe Tremors. I would love to see Special Editions of The Hidden, Lord of Illusions, The Cell, and especially Nightbreed, ( I know, it’s coming….but not fast enough dammit)
