Producer Talks Found Footage Friday the 13th, Jason & More

Friday the 13thThere are a lot of rumors swirling around the next Friday the 13th film.  And the one that is getting fans in an uproar is that the next entry will be executed using a "found footage" narrative.

The film is due to hit theaters March 13, 2015 and Crave Online caught up with Brad Fuller, one of the producers on the film representing Platinum Dunes, to talk about the 13th film in the long-running slasher series.  "It's a matter of getting a script that we all love, that we feel like we can execute in a great way. That's always the battle, isn’t it?," he told Crave.

Fuller added that found footage is an angle they might use. "It's something that we're looking at, yeah. I never know because it depends on the story and what the story is. It's been reported, that's something that we're looking into, but I can't tell you definitively that that's what the movie is."

With the next film actually being the 13th installment, Fuller says that it will be a "a very daunting task."

Will Derek Mears returns to play Jason? "I don't know, because I don’t know if we're going to have Jason, I don't know which Jason we're going to have. I can tell you this: I love Derek Mears, I love working with him and he's a dream so we'd be lucky to have him," said Fuller.

One thing concerns me beyond the "found footage" thing.  They don't know which Jason they're going to have?  Mind you, the film is going to be called Friday the 13th – again – which raises a red flag.  Are they going to start over?  There are so many ideas circulating in my head right now.  Are we going to see Jason in his youth and will this movie be a found footage account of his time at the camp?  Who knows…I'm overthinking it and I'll stop.  We'll just have to wait and see what transpires!

Found footage seems like an odd choice for a franchise built on some great POV stalking shots.. Unless they go nuts and give Jason the camera for some reason.

LOL.. Jason and a GoPro.. hahahaa

I think it’s cool that they’re considering such a big change for the 13th movie. However, found footage as a sub-genre is such a fad nowadays and I’m worried how the film will age over the years if they go that route. That’s not to say that it can’t turn out great, but I am hoping for a more traditional style of filming. The fans have been begging for a Jason movie with a snowy setting for years, and the 13th entry in the series could be the perfect opportunity to finally deliver. I would also like to see Derek Mears reprise the role of Jason, even if it’s not a continuation of the reboot, because he totally nailed the part. I hope it isn’t just another reboot though. Although the ending didn’t pack nearly as much of a punch as the opening did, the 2009 effort was pretty great overall and full of homages. I’d like to see that Jason’s world given the chance to be fleshed out some more before they just give up on it.

its all about freddy filming jason on a killing spree

What’s so fucking hard about just making an old school Friday The 13th. 80s style! None of the fancy bullshit fads of modern Hollywood. All any real Jason fan wants is to see him stalk and slay some stupid teens. Found footage is dumb. Mears is good as Jason Kane is better.

It would be great if Derek Mears returns. He did a great job in the last movie and is also a nice guy. But, he has said that he would like to “retire” from the suit acting and start an acting career.

Not having jason in a friday the 13th movie is like having a rambo movie with no rambo, Just give us a film that has jason going on the biggest killing spree ever! This is the 13th instalment after all.

All I know is that found footage is overrated and shouldn’t be used for Friday the 13th. It’s ridiculous! All we fans want is to see Jason go on a killing spree and have a hot chick be the only survivor. K.I.S.S. (Keep It Simple Stupids)
