The Fourth Starship Troopers Film Will Be Animated

Details, artwork for Invasion

There were rumblings a long time ago that a live-action Starship Troopers 4 was being discussed. Sony, which had found success with direct-to-DVD sequels, has opted to taken another route with the next intergalactic bug hunt: Animation.

Starship Troopers: Invasion is presently in the works, on track for a summer 2012 release. Shinji Aramaki (Appleseed, Halo Legend) is directing; I hear Casper Van Dien do the vocal work for Johnny Rico, until that’s confirmed just know he’s on board as an executive producer with Ed Neumeier, the writer of the previous three films.

Starship Troopers is no stranger to animation, of course. The first film spawned a series called “Roughnecks.”

Here is the synopsis: A distant Federation outpost Fort Casey comes under attack by bugs. The team on the fast attack ship Alesia is assigned to help the Starship John A. Warden stationed in Fort Casey evacuate along with the survivors and bring military intelligence safely back to Earth. Carl Jenkins, now ministry of Paranormal Warfare, takes the starship on a clandestine mission before its rendezvous with the Alesia and goes missing in the nebula. Now, the battle-hardened troopers are charged with a rescue mission that may lead to a much more sinister consequence than they ever could have imagined….

A production blog has been set up, you can keep track of the film’s progress here.

Now, can someone please make a proper FPS Troopers video game that puts me in the battle like Call of Duty?
