Although I think many of us figured Tim Burton would return to the director’s chair to bring Beetlejuice back to the big screen for the long-mooted Beetlejuice 2, it was never a “sure thing.
The Wrap confirms today, however, that Burton is indeed in talks to helm the sequel. It will not be his next film, says the outlet, but it will be a film on his upcoming slate.
Seth Grahame-Smith (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, Dark Shadows) penned the script.
Beetlejuice 2 has been gestating for well over a year now. Most parties we’ve spoken to, from Burton and to the writer have all been hopeful it would come together. Michael Keaton has already been approached to reprise his role.
And when we spoke to Burton last year, he said his involvement in the director’s chair would be contingent on the strength of the script. I guess he was pleased by what was turned in!
