Hideo Nakata is getting behind a remake of the Korean thriller Haunters, but it’s not for America. Instead, he’s helming a Japanese redo.
In the original film, Cho-in is a psychic sociopath who can control people with his eyes, an ability he has exploited in ways both petty and disturbing. Then he meets Kyu-nam, the one person in the world who can resist his evil gaze. The two become locked in an ever-escalating game of cat-and-mouse.
According to Variety, Nakata’s film is operating under the titles Monster for right now.
Haunters, meanwhile, has yet to be distributed here in the U.S.
