FilmDistrict announced today that it will co-finance the supernatural thriller The Last Word, which is inspired by a true story and written by Ben Ketai.
The film focuses on the strange and tragic aftermath endured by the participants in the trial of a young man in Texas who was wrongly convicted and executed for the rape and murder of a nun.
Boss Media’s Frank Mancuso, Jr. will produce the project along with Eric Gores, Peter Facinelli and Rob DeFranco of A7SLE Films, and Peter Schlessel and Lia Buman on behalf of FilmDistrict. The project is slated to commence production this summer with plans for FilmDistrict to release the film domestically in 2014.
The story was originally acquired by Facinelli’s A7SLE Films, which then partnered with Boss Media to develop the project and bring on Ketai to write the script.
“After hearing about this story and reading Ben’s script, we were compelled to work on this unique project,” said FilmDistrict’s CEO Peter Schlessel. “We’re excited for audiences across the world to be disturbed and fascinated by this bone chilling story.”
Ketai is about to direct a horror film of his own called Benath.
