Warm Bodies, the zombie love tale, opened at number one at the box office this weekend. The film, starring Nicholas Hoult and Theresa Palmer, grossed an estimated $19.5 million, once again driving home that this is a solid winter period for genre fare.
Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters, last weeks number one flick, jumped to number two, grossing an extra $9.1 million bringing that films total to $34.4 million.
And Mama is still doing pretty well for itself, hanging around the top five, raking in an extra $6.7 million. That films cumulative gross is now $58.2 million.
Out of the crop of winter releases, the only one that took a hard hit after its debut was Texas Chainsaw 3D. Yes, it opened at number one, but it’s drop-off rate was severe. It plummeted out of the top ten rather quickly and, to date, has grossed $34 million.
