This week, two significant things have happened in the world of Guillermo del Toro.  First, news broke that Del Toro would return to the realm of horror and direct Crimson Peak.  That was followed with the buzz he would supervise the writing of Pacific Rim 2, a sequel to his summer 2013 offering Pacific Rim.

Both Crimson Peak and all things Pacific Rim reside at Legendary and I have to wonder if the sequel will take priority over Peak.  If the supernatural chiller does go into production in early 2014 as anticipated, here's a bit of what we can expect - Del Toro took to the message boards of DelToroFilms.com to explain.

In response to an article at Aint-It-Cool-News in which Harry Knowles theorized Crimson Peak was an old script Del Toro penned with Matthew Robbins called Hell House, Del Toro said:

CP is not Hell House at all. Nothing could be further from that. CP is a spec script Matthew and I wrote right after Pan's Labyrinth. It stayed mostly under the radar but I have been pushing it quietly. Universal has been very supportive and wanted to do it. It's set at the turn of the century and it is a Gothic romance with ghosts. When I use the GR term I use it not in the Barbara Cartland model but rather in a Bronte fashion. Dark and stormy and wind-swept.

This is my first foray into horror since Sci-Fi/Horror Mimic. DBB [Devil's Backbone] was more of an essay on ghosts than a ghost story and, except as producer, I have not returned to scary stuff in a long time. Glad you guys are jazzed. So am I!!
