Universal’s long-mooted Creature from the Black Lagoon remake has a writer and I’m not entirely sure we should be getting all that excited. According to THR, David Kajganich is going to pen the update which has been in development hell for decades.
Kajganich recently penned the remakes of IT and Pet Sematary for Warner Bros. On one hand, he also scripted The Invasion, the remake of Invasion of the Body Snatchers which I found to be a complete drag. On the other hand, he wrote Blood Creek, which I found interesting.
The team at Strike Entertainment are going to produce. They gave us the Dawn of the Dead remake and The Thing prequel. So, you now understand my hesitation to get excited, yes?
Breck Eisner was once attached to direct Creature from the Black Lagoon. Then Carl Rinsch’s name was connected to the projected, however, he is not directing either.
Will the Creature redo finally regain some momentum? We shall see…
There is a lot of activity going on with Universal’s classic monsters these days. Universal recently gave Guillermo Del Toro the green light to get a script going for Frankenstein. The Mummy is being rebooted with Len Wiseman directing. There is definitely something in the air!
