There’s a new actress joining the Psycho legacy. Vera Farmiga (Orphan, The Departed) has been attached to A&E’s forthcoming Psycho prequel television series, Bates Motel.
Farmiga, who also appeared another “sinister son” tale Joshua, will play Norma Bates, Norman Bates’ mother.
The role of “mother” was previously played by Olivia Hussey in Psycho IV: The Beginning, which also delved into the Bates’ past.
A&E is moving swiftly on Bates Motel which has a 10-episode order. The series begins in 2013.
Carlton Cuse and Kerry Ehrin are acting as showrunners. Of Farmiga’s involved, Cuse says: “We are delighted to welcome Vera Farmiga to Bates Motel. She is a phenomenal talent who has demonstrated incredible range and intelligence in a number of landmark film roles, and we couldn’t be more excited to have her join our project.”
