EXCL: What Does Lin Shaye Know About Insidious 2?

At last night’s Saturn Awards ceremony, Shock Till You Drop caught up with actress Lin Shaye, genre vet and co-star of the supernatural hit Insidious.  We took the chance to ask her about the upcoming sequel, Insidious 2 which is being scripted by Leigh Whannell while director James Wans completes work on The Conjuring.

In February, Whannell himself confirmed that at least two characters from the first film would be back for part two.  ”It may probably bum a lot of people out, though, to hear this news. It’s part of the reason I don’t even read the internet message boards anymore; there was this hatred that spewed out from fans saying ‘I hated those guys! They sucked! They ruined the movie!’ so there will probably be a lot of people out there who will be disappointed to hear that the Specs and Tucker characters will be coming back.”

What about the return of Shaye’s character, Elise Rainier?

When asked if the actress knew if Elise was coming back, she told us, “I don’t know for sure.  Well, I don’t want to give anything away for people who haven’t seen the first one about what happens to Elise.  The option is open, so I hope so. I love James [Wan]. I love those guys. I want to be a part of that project.”

She admits she hasn’t seen the script yet or heard too many details as to where the story is going.  Shaye has been staying in touch regularly with her Insidious team, however.  ”We have an eating club. It isn’t really a club. Not Leigh [Whannell] so much. He’s married to a wonderful actress [Corbett Tuck] and they have their own deal going on. But James and Joe Bishara who plays the demon and did the musical score and Mike Mendez who is a good friend and a producer and director. It’s like, okay, when are we getting the Indian food? We go to P.F. Chang’s. I see them a lot.”

As for upcoming projects, Shaye says, “I was just in a film that premiered at Comic Con called FDR: American Badass! with Barry Bostwick. It’s supposed to be hilarious. I haven’t seen it yet. I also did Black Limousine with David Arquette that’s really fabulous. There are also a couple projects that I can’t talk about. I hope they come through.”
