Edgar Wright to Direct Johnny Depp in The Night Stalker
Not long ago, it was revealed Johnny Depp was spearheading The Night Stalker, an update of the tele-film starring Darren McGavin as Carl Kolchak. Deadline is reporting today that Edgar Wright of Shaun of the Dead and Scott Pilgrim vs. the World will direct this project for Disney and Depp's Infinitum Nihil production company.
Right now, the site is saying that it is a "potential" starring vehicle for Depp, but c'mon, let's face it: The appeal for Disney to redo The Night Stalker probably begins and ends with Depp starring as Kolchak.

Because this is going to be a Disney flick, Deadline states that the film will likely be a PG-13. Which is fine, to be honest, the Kolchak television series was PG at best, however, it was still effective. The Night Stalker first aired in '72 and followed Kolchak, an investigative reporter who was on the hunt for a Las Vegas-based serial killer who turned out to be a vampire. Richard Matheson penned the screenplay.
