What makes Peirce an interesting choice is her previous efforts. She helmed Boys Don't Cry in '99, directed a few episodes of The L Word and also helmed Stop-Loss. Peirce is probably comfortable with a story like Carrie which concerns themes of bullying and female empowerment.
Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa penned the script which is said to be closer to the source material than Brian DePalma's film starring Sissy Spacek.
Since that '70s film, Carrie has been sequelized and turned into a made-for-TV movie starring May's Angela Bettis.
