Abrams has decided he’s too much of a fan to adapt the material and doesn’t want to screw it up. “The ‘Dark Tower’ thing is tricky. It’s such an important piece of writing. The truth is that Damon and I are not looking at that right now.” Furthermore, he says it’s a matter of time, too. He doesn’t want to spend several years working on a screen translation.
Good for him for realizing these things. “The Dark Tower” series took some puzzling turns, not to mention it would take commitment to crack an effective adaptation.
Like “The Talisman,” “The Dark Tower” will now sit easy in prose form until another filmmaker comes along…
