fear doesn't describe the style of barker...

it is a morbid fascination, no seduction, with the preacknowledgement that the end will be a fear void of any light at the end of the tunnel, that leaves your imagination scarred and in a kind of disconnected depravation. There are no answers offered for an exit. Only an abandonment from its imagination offers any comfort.

Barker is amazing and unique. its no wonder his work doesn't translate well into film, its far to imaginative. Cabal was an amazing novel but the film version (Nightbreed) was just not great. leave his best work in the book stores! dont bring it to the big screen it simply cant be done!!!

So they changed it to students? Quaid in the short story wa an older man, a philosophy teacher. But hey, this has a Flatliners/Pathology thing to it. I love the story, will be interested in seeing how this turns out.

If done right, this sounds like the movie I've been waiting 27 years for. One that can actually scare the hell out of me and give me nightmares. I can't wait.

I just recently read this story and immediately thought that it would make a great movie if done correctly. I'm excited.
